| "SILENT KILLER is a significant and moving film on the persistent chronic hunger that exists worldwide which describes the situation in various countries of the world and identifies causes and responses. The film pricks our consciences when we understand that we have the know-how and the means to eradicate chronic hunger, in spite of the “Declarations” and “Summits” What we lack is the political will to do that we should, and SILENT KILLER goes a long ways in creating a global political environment where governments, institutions, organizations and individuals will take action to make a difference in saving the lives of million of children and adults in their local community. My only regret is that the film is only in English and the world needs to see this film. Hopefully SILENT KILLER will have wide distribution and audiences during World Food Day in October."

"SILENT KILLER is more than a beautiful film with powerful visual images and stories. It is a sonic boom that breaks the silence about a nightmare, with racism the terrible subtext, which the world's policymakers--and all of us--have ignored for far too long. I was truly moved."

"SILENT KILLER is an important contribution in the movement to build the political and spiritual will to end hunger. If people know about the problem, they will do something about it. Americans respond generously whenever they know about a crisis and feel they can help, as they did in response to the Tsunami disaster. The difficulty is educating them about the number one killer in the world--chronic hunger. The film SILENT KILLER is a crucial tool in our work to educate the public about this tragedy that takes the lives of about 25,000 people every single day. I thank those involved for their dedication in using their skills to help finish the campaign against hunger."

"SILENT KILLER is a brilliant new film produced and directed by Hana Jindrova and John DeGraaf about the neglected issue of world hunger. Jindrova and de Graaf skillfully weave together compelling stories, vivid characters, stunning photography and memorable narration to produce a tour de force which wakes up the viewer to the importance of world hunger and what must be done about it."

"Being a travel writer, you see a lot of the world. I've seen lots of riches and happiness but sadly, I have also seen that hunger and starvation are still far too prevalent. It is amazing to learn that as many people die each week from hunger as died in the recent tsunami. It gets no headlines and it is entirely avoidable, costing less to overcome than what our society invests in professional sports, cosmetics or even caffeine. SILENT KILLER shows how we can work with the rest of the world to actually put an end to hunger (and still enjoy our coffee). In my travels, I wish I could take with me a sense of pride that my country has done its part to free the world from hunger forever. With a little love, a little prioritizing, a little enlightenment, and a little cooperation, we can do it!"

"SILENT KILLER unveils the harsh reality of world hunger. Through the eloquently told stories, hunger is brought to the forefront as an issue the world must address. Hunger has been overlooked for too long by the world – let us all be empowered and inspired by this documentary to continue our fight."

"SILENT KILLER is much more than a new recitation of the daily tsunami of children - who starve, not through lack of food in the world, but because of lack of will to do things differently. It tells success stories where small seeds of change - an agronomist's work, a little grant, community organizing - are growing. Moreover, it shows us a whole country, Brazil, which has mobilized to end hunger. Seeing what they are doing, you'll think, "This makes sense. We can do this."

| "The documentary SILENT KILLER is a striking film which presents an honest look at the tragedy of hunger. I still can’t push some of the most heartbreaking images in the film out of my mind. That is as it should be, when 24,000 people die each day from hunger. But the film goes beyond soliciting our sympathy. SILENT KILLER shows us how innovations in science, delivered by caring people, can help people in the most destitute places produce life-giving food for their families. It is noble work and we must support it. Urge your friends to see SILENT KILLER. My hope is that this film will inspire us all to do more to fight extreme poverty and hunger."

"FAO has long argued that hunger was beatable if the political will was there to take up the fight. SILENT KILLER is a very successful portrayal of many of the root causes of hunger, and promotes solid proposals to regain ground in the war against hunger."

"Some books get placed on a 'required reading' list. SILENT KILLER should be 'required viewing.' It has the potential to re-energize dormant popular support for access to food as a basic human right. Religious communities will find the program both challenging and heartening--challenging because it offers a sobering reminder of the chasm between those who struggle with overeating and those who never have enough; heartening because creative and successful programs in self-reliant farming are being developed. If adequately funded, these programs could lead whole populations out of the hunger pit."

"Life's ironies can either be funny or sad. The ironies illuminated in SILENT KILLER are strikingly tragic. A cactus that helps suppress the appetite of Africans slowing dying of starvation is cultivated for the benefit of those dying of obesity. A billboard featuring smiling faces of healthy children extolls an empty-calorie soft drink in a city where thousands of children die each year of malnutrition. Government patents designed to protect agricultural research stifle innovative ways to produce more food. SILENT KILLER is a lush film filled with poignant images, and sheds light on small solutions offering big promise. Young women farmers in Africa are an inspiration, displaying an intelligence and determination rarely depicted in western media. The killer may be silent, but the message is loud and clear."

| "It's almost as if hunger has become accepted, a fact of life--much of the indignation (and hard work) of years past has vanished. This film should do much to end that sad state of affairs and return this great shame to the center of our consciousness." |

| "SILENT KILLER depicts the reality of hunger with intelligence but in a
way that goes straight to the heart. The film educates about and
contributes to the important debate on genetic engineering in agriculture
by presenting the pluses and the minuses in a balanced way. Most
importantly, the film gives us hope by illustrating how time-tested
indigenous knowledge combined with advances in sustainable agriculture can
meet the challenges to food production in Africa. It shows how Brazil's
real-life actions to support food security and combat hunger can solve the
farmer viability struggles and maldistribution problems faced around the world. SILENT KILLER helps shine a light down the road we must travel to
eradicate hunger forever." |
